Abstract Children and young-people living in residential homes and the seismic disturbance of living in concern is an issue that has appeared at the forefront of policies at pith child anxiety in recent long time and this has been shown by the changes in some of the laws surrounding children in residential homes. This study aims to discuss and ask the questions:- Is there still a future for childrens homes? How can social care circle indoors residential services work with and provide choke for children and young-people. This project aims to discuss and analyse themes in relation to the subject, rise with cu rrent policy and context within residential care and how the law, underpinning childrens services, aids practice with children and young-people.

In ordain to cast at how this subject has gained more awareness, a brief story has been discussed including reference to the workhouse, The Poor Law 1556, The Poor Law Amendment word form 1884 and the onset of Barnados homes.
